Has a constant state of stress become normalized so you wouldn't even know what being relaxed truly feels like? Do you use stimulants like coffee and carbohydrate processed foods to get through the day?
Are you addicted to technology? Are you low on dopamine? Can you go longer than an hour without checking your phone? Would you be okay putting your phone on airplane mode for 24 hours? Are you able to actually look someone in the eye when talking or do you walk around staring at the ground? Are you capable of actually sitting still or do you always chew your nails and awkwardly fidget? Do you always cross your arms or keep your hands in your pockets? Or do you have open comfortable posture?
Do you have uplifting and loving people in your life? Or do you keep around toxic and poisonous people who enable negative habits? Do the people in your life push you to improve and drag you into mediocrity?
Do you have a healthy sex life? Do you watch porn? Is your body really reaching its fullest potential in all aspects of life? Are you able to comfortably have sex? As a man, can you last at least half an hour? As a woman, do you naturally produce adequate lubrication?
(I mention sexual vitality because it is often a reliable reflection of the health of our body and our mind)
Use these questions as a simple way to take notice and fully acknowledge your current state of mind. As you'll learn the major first step is simply becoming self-aware.
Use this lesson as a way to take notice the nuance of your mind. If you can't be honest with yourself right now, then how do you think you are going to trudge deeper into your mind and get the best out of you!
Don't compare yourself to others. Compare yourself to your best self and how he's everything you aren't, yet...
Meditate for 5 minutes eyes open and stare right into your eyes in a mirror. Notice what thoughts enter your mind. Notice if you feel an urge to look away. Ponder that. Make self-discoveries.
(It's okay to blink)
Notice whatever enters your mind regardless good or bad. Repeat this exercise until you have no problem holding the gaze for 5 minutes straight.
The more you can become self-aware, the better you will be able to orient yourself in the direction you need to go. As you can imagine, this easily translates onto the field of football as your ability to remain consistent for 90 minutes or across a whole season. I also think it's no coincidence that the more "easy-going" "less worried" people, are also the ones with the most creativity. Toss out worry by letting it drift by. Use the mirror check to familiarize yourself with the ins and outs of your mind.
If you fail to control your own mind, you may be sure you will control nothing else.
